Extension and Conversion Project, Iver

Conversion of a detached dwelling into a pair of semi-detached homes

Located in a Green Belt Settlement in Iver, Buckinghamshire, this project, for developers MSQUARE saw the conversion, and modernisation, of a somewhat tired, detached house into a pair of modern, semi-detached homes. One measuring 1,120sqft and the other 970sqft.

We gained consent to add a 2 storey extension to the west side of the property (the right-hand-side as viewed from the front) which allowed us to divide the property into two roughly equal halves and provide a second front entrance, lobby, and staircase. A new roof was added to the property to allow for additional bedrooms at second floor.

The garden of the right-hand unit is compromised by an unusual historic, diagonal, rear boundary treatment, and to compensate for this we included a new balcony off the principal bedroom; this also has the benefit of maximising the wonderful views across the adjacent fields.

Our proposal picks up on the historic character of other properties in the road, most of which are 1930s semi-detached. Whilst modern in its execution, these new dwellings are designed to sit quietly in the street scene and blend well with the other properties, both old and new.
