Buckinghamshire – Bespoke Pool and Gym
A new indoor swimming pool and gym in the Green Belt
This new leisure facility is the second phase of a larger project, the first phase being the renovation and modernisation of the historic house property. The building has been designed to meet Permitted Development requirements for detached outbuildings and as such did not require planning permission.
Externally, our brief was for the new building to sit quietly next to the historic house, and act as a backdrop for the wonderful landscaping scheme, particularly around the outdoor kitchen and dining areas. JDA proposed a modern, flat roof design with the building being located at a lower level to the main terrace to minimise impact and included a sedum roof to soften the appearance of the pool building when viewed from above. A wall and a half of sliding glass doors connect the pool with the landscape where the Landscape Designer has introduced trees and platers to soften the strong horizontal lines of the building. Internally, the main space includes a 12.5m long swimming pool with swim jet and spa seating at the shallow end. A feature wall runs the length of the pool hall and set in this are a steam room, feature shower and two changing rooms. Concealed behind secret doors is a storage room, WC, and plant room. Separate to the pool area is a home gym, which includes a laundry, kitchenette, and storage.
