The building has been designed, in collaboration with JDI, as a forever home for our clients and will be constructed using a timber frame with a highly insulated, airtight fabric first approach to sustainability. The replacement home has been designed as single storey, to protect the openness of the Green Belt that it lies within, and is split into three distinct blocks, each with different heights and function. The larger central block contains the kitchen, dining, and primary living spaces, and the two smaller blocks either side contain the bedrooms. A mono-pitch roof sits above the central block to provide a fantastic, vaulted ceiling beneath, which opens out into the landscape through a 9m wide glazed sliding door that allows natural light and ventilation to flood the room.
Careful consideration was given to the building’s size, form, materiality, and positioning within the site to ensure that it sat well within its surroundings.
